The Molise region is a land rich in history with very ancient origins connected to different civilisations that have left their mark over the centuries. The people with whom Molise is most identified are the Samnites, and the onion can be considered a true gastronomic excellence of the Sannio area.

Molise is also folklore and popular traditions linked to religious festivities, seasonal cycles and work in the fields, a fact that confirms the region's attachment to rural traditions. Important are the thematic festivals based on culinary traditions and fairs dedicated to 'products of the earth'.

Among the oldest fairs in Italy is the Fiera dei Santi Pietro and Paolo in Isernia (every year from 28 to 30 June), also known as the 'onion fair' because the onion is the undisputed starring.

Ortofruttamolise

covers all stages of the production chain. We start by choosing the most suitable fields for onion cultivation with the best soil and climate, so as to minimise the use of pesticides. The production techniques, standardised after more than 20 years of experience in onion cultivation by the Mazzocchetti family, continue to evolve, always accompanied by the use of seeds and soil conditioners from the best producers on the market.

A natural vocation for sustainability is given by the proximity of the land to the packhouse allowing us to preserve the best freshness of the product, and by a careful treatment of the soil by scrupulous crop rotation maintaining the soil fertility.

Sustainability is considered as a close and indissoluble bond with its territory and surrounding community:

attention to the ground
attention to the natural resources
attention to the human resources
attention to the water
attention to waste
attention to safety

Crop rotation is a technique based on varying the crop species cultivated in the same plot in order to maintain or naturally improve soil fertility. Ortofruttamolise is also expanding its production of cereals and legumes for this purpose.

Development and management

From irrigation methods, to the production of renewable energy, to the recovery of processing waste, Ortofruttamolise strives daily to rationalise and limit the environmental impact generated by all aspects of the business.
The development project covers the entire production chain, from the countryside to storage and processing, from handling to distribution.
